Hi Vixen Dolls! Welcome back to my blog. If you are reading this, you most likely have recently purchased hair (if you shopped with me THANK YOU ♥️♥️♥️) or you need help caring for your tresses. Caring for your wigs is VITAL or your money will quickly go down the drain. However, it's super easy! All you have to do is follow the steps below!
**Care for your wig the way you would care for your real hair.
Yes you can manipulate your wigs more (color, cutting, straightening/curling, etc.) But remember that it is still human hair! It won't last long if you mistreat it.
**Wash or co-wash your hair every 2-3 weeks.
If you sweat a lot or have dry scalp, I recommend washing your wigs every week
Shampoo your hair with sulfate free shampoo to avoid product build-up every other wash
I recommend air drying hair when possible and keeping blow drying to a minimum
When detangling: NEVER detangle with shampoo, only conditioner. Start from the ends and work your way up with a wide tooth comb or denman brush
Fully dry your wig root to tip AND your braids under! Nobody wants soggy hair or that mildew smell!
After washing, apply a leave-in conditioner to keep hair moisturized
**ANY TIME. I repeat- ANY TIME you put heat in your hair please use a heat protectant! You will damage your healthy strands and cause split ends.
However, do not put heat in your hair everyday! Minimize heat styling to 2-3 weeks or the least amount you can.
Preserve your styles by wrapping, using rollers or rods, braiding, etc. at night.
**Sleep with a satin scarf, bonnet, or pillow case! Regular pillow cases will dry and mat your hair while satin keeps it soft and silky.
Read more here for specific products I recommend you get! You will also find products I personally use (COMING SOON).
** Last but certainly not least, CARE FOR YOUR REAL HAIR UNDERNEATH!
Keep your scalp and hair clean and moisturized, and take out your sew-in/wig to do regular deep conditioning, washing, trimming, etc. to help your hair grow.
Do not keep your protective style in too long, let your natural tresses breathe!!!!
**I am not a natural hair specialist (I struggle too!)
Extra Do's and Don'ts 💞
Do:
Brush your hair daily to avoid tangling
Consult a professional hairstylist for any chemical service such as bleaching and coloring.
Consult a stylist for anything you are not 100% confident about
Use quarter sized amounts of product only when hair feels dry (other people say dime, I say quarter 🤷🏾♀️)
Don't:
Go to bed without wrapping, braiding or placing a bonnet on your head.
Exceed heat temperatures of 380 degrees Fahrenheit when using heat tools.
DO NOT use a lot of different products or a large amount of products in the hair. It will leave hair stringy and stiff and cause product build up. Less is more!
Use heavy oils and grease on your bundles. Stick to lightweight serums.
